In spite of some basic changes in the status and role of women in the society, no society treats its women as well as its men. Therefore, women persist to experience from various hardships from kitchens to key-boards, from the cradle to the grave across nations.
With the passage of time, a lot has changed, since those dark ages of the 1950s for the women. However, at some levels like dowry, crimes like sexual harassment at the office or public places, rape, molestation, and even after over sixty years of independence women’s are still exploited, which is the darkest & the shameful side of our country.
Though a number of constitutional amendments were made for women’s social, political and economic benefits, yet they were never effective to bring a profound change in the situation.
Women had only the role of a ‘good wife’ to play, and if a woman dared out for work then, she was seen as a bad woman, going against societal benchmarks. Women were expected to cook food and eat only after the men, with whatever inadequate amount of food is left. This led to malnutrition among women and an immensely poor health status.
But, when our country got its independence, the participation of women was widely recognized. When the Indian Constitution was developed, it granted equal rights to women, considering them the legal citizens of the country and as an equal to men in terms of freedom and opportunities.
Today Indian women have excelled in each and every field from social work to visiting space station. There is no filed, which remains undefeated by Indian women’s. Whether it is sports, literature, entertainment, politics, literature everywhere, its women power all along.
The way towards the status of the women is full of crack holes. Over the passage of years, women have made hugestalks in numerous areas with eminent progress in decreasing some gender gaps.
Yet, now also women and girls getting trafficked every year and also with the upturn practice of rape, dowry and sexual harassment which has really hit hard against all the development that has taken place. Therefore, if on the one hand, women are climbing the ladder of success, on the other hand she is calmly suffering the violence depressed on her by her own family members.
As compared to the past, women in modern times have achieved a lot but in reality, they have to still travel a long way. Women may have left the secured domains of their home, but a rigid, vicious, immoral world count on them, where women have to prove their talent against the world, those who just see women as the soleservants of producing children’s.
The Indian woman has to make her way through all the socialised intolerance against her, and the men yet have to allow and accept the women to be equal member in the country’s way forward.
So, this “Women’s Day” Let’s join our hands & make women feel like birds of their own choices!
